KEEP IT REAL!
Okay, let’s start with something super important—realistic expectations. The holidays are all about indulgence and celebrating good time with others, so don’t set impossible standards for yourself. Be sure include a “Treat Day” – it’s perfectly okay to savor your favorite holiday goodies in moderation; be mindful and plan ahead.
PLAN THE ATTACK
Take a look at your holiday schedule and plan your meals accordingly. Big dinner party coming up? No problem—just balance it out with lighter meals earlier in the day. Dinner at a Restaurant? I like to check out the menu ahead of time and decided my meal based on what sounds both yummy and healthy – that way when I get there, my hunger doesn’t make poor decision.
If you’re headed to a potluck or gathering, whip up a healthy dish to share. Not only does this make you a hero, but it also ensures there’s something you can chow down on guilt-free.
Keep an eye on portions. Trick your brain by using smaller plates and serving utensils. It’s like portion control magic!
Keep that water flowing. Staying hydrated helps control your appetite.
MAKE SMART CHOICES
When you’re faced with a table loaded with food, make savvy selections. Start with the good stuff—lean proteins and veggies. Then, if you still have room, dive into the calorie-laden dishes.
Those sugary cocktails may be tempting and if it’s your favorite treat, enjoy in moderation. Looking for a healthier option? Choose sparkling water with a twist of lime.
If you can’t resist dessert, have a small piece or split one with a friend. Sharing is caring, after all!
KEEP THE BODY MOVING
Don’t let the holidays sideline your workout routine. Keep that momentum going. Plan your workouts in advance and stick to the schedule as best as you can.
Turn family time into active time. Suggest a post-feast walk, round up the gang for some outdoor games or end of the evening with dance party to your favorite holiday tunes.
STRESS LESS
I’m not going to lie, holidays can be stressful and stress can lead to unwanted lbs. Combat it with awareness and relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, journaling or some good ol’ yoga. When stress it’s hits hard, I closely eyes, take a few deep breaths and think about three (3) things I am grateful for today. It only takes a few minutes and it’s a mindset game changer.
RALLY YOUR TROOPS
Don’t do it alone. Share your goals with friends and family so they can be your cheerleaders and accountability partners. And if you’re feeling extra motivated, buddy up with someone else on your wellness journey for added support.
YOU GOT THIS!
Overall, keeping off those holiday pounds doesn’t have to be a buzzkill. With a relaxed attitude, some savvy planning, and a few smart choices, you can enjoy the holidays and stay true to your weight and wellness goals. So go ahead, savor the season, and have a blast while keeping healthy and happy! Cheers to you!
