Carnival Season is well underway and it is a fabulous excuse to celebrate holiday magic a little longer. If you are anything like me, your home is filled with purple, green and gold decorations and of course glitter everywhere!
Mardi Gras is rich in history and traditions which makes it truly, a special time of year. From the parades and costumes, to the delicious food and drinks, the festivities of Carnival Season are a great way to celebrate and honor our cultural heritage. While basking in New Orleans’ tradition of carnival, here are a few mystique ways to survive Mardi Gras season:
- Hydrate! Drink plenty of water to keep yourself energized and healthy during the festivities. My go-to energy supplement is LMNT Electroyte Drink Mix (raspberry). Also, check out Em’s blog on IV Hydration.
- Wear sunscreen! If we are lucky, Mardi Gras will be sunny. Either way, make sure to apply sunscreen to protect your beautiful skin. Our Tint Sunscreen protects and looks great with or without makeup (office secret – the men love it too).
- Give your throws to children. The joy on their face with fun beads and light-up trinkets is most rewarding!
- Embrace the glitter – it is going to end up everywhere so you might as well enjoy it’s purple, green, and gold magic.
- Pace yourself. Mardi Gras Day (Fat Tuesday) may only be one day but festivities, masquerade balls, and parades start weeks in advance. The season last from Kings Day (January 6th) through Fat Tuesday. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
- Give yourself a Treat Day! It’s ok to have a piece of king cake or fried chicken. For King Cake try the King Cake Hub for a variety of options and for fried chicken use the Popeye’s App and skip the queue.
- Don’t go it alone – bring the whole krewe and be aware of your surroundings.
- Have FUN! Enjoy this time with family and friends because celebration with others is what’s it’s all about.
Carnival Season is a wonderful time of year! Grab your krewe, put on your best costume, and dance the day away.
