Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

In the world of skin rejuvenation, there’s a heavy focus on using natural options, like harnessing the power of your blood. While platelet-rich plasma (PRP) used to be the go-to, its counterpart, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), is emerging as a standout solution for addressing skin and aging issues ranging from acne scars to wrinkles and discoloration and even thinning hair. PRF utilizes platelet-rich plasma, but contains more growth factors, stem cells, white blood cells, and fibrin, which dramatically enhance the results. PRF treatment benefits far outweigh traditional PRP and offer greater versatility since the fibrin matrix of PRF allows the benefits to last days to weeks while PRP only releases growth factors for hours to days.

What Is PRF?

PRF, or platelet rich fibrin, is a 100% natural treatment that harnesses the power of your extracted blood to address common signs of aging in the face and can even jumpstart hair growth. PRF can be used as an add-on to microneedling or RF Microneedling, as an all natural filler alternative known as PRF gel bio-filler, and as liquid PRF injections.

Eight growth factors are in the platelets derived from PRF. These platelets are necessary for natural wound repair and clotting mechanisms but are only activated by specific chemicals during the process. Since PRF does not use an anticoagulant, it provides more benefits of growth factors for improved blood flow, collagen and elastin production, new skin cell growth, and overall skin rejuvenation.

PRF relies on a centrifugation process, and with PRF, the centrifuge speed used is slow, which helps maintain more of the fibrin matrix. The advantage of PRF lies in the preservation of white blood cells, stem cells, growth factors (the same ones used to heal the skin after an injury), and fibrin within the concentrate, providing additional skin rejuvenating and healing benefits.

Overall, PRF boasts more natural elements and collagen-producing factors than PRP for a greater effect on collagen production and tissue regeneration. PRF also features fibrin, which is responsible for localizing growth factors to a target area to maximize their efficacy. This makes PRF an all around more effective solution for hair restoration and total skin rejuvenation.

How Does PRF Work?

PRF stimulates, regenerates, and repairs the body’s natural collagen production to restore natural youthfulness. PRF is also rich in growth factors to jumpstart the body’s normal regenerative processes. Once the PRF solution is prepared, it can either be left in its liquid form and applied topically or injected…or it can be made into a gel bio-filler that is then injected to induce volumetric changes similar to what filler can achieve.

A PRF treatment begins with blood extraction, followed by a slow centrifugation. This process creates a matrix containing platelets, plasma, fibrin, and white blood cells, revitalizing the skin. The liquid solution can be injected into areas of the face and scalp most affected by aging. PRF liquid can also be used topically with other skin rejuvenating treatments for a synergistic effect. After centrifugation, PRF can also be turned into a gel called bio-filler and injected into areas of the face and body as an alternative to traditional dermal fillers.

Our PRF Treatments

At CARE Esthetics, we specialize in taking an all-natural, holistic approach to rejuvenation and utilizing PRF is a cornerstone to many of our incredible treatment offerings. Our PRF treatment solutions include:

PRF Microneedling
Microneedling is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that causes safe and controlled micro-injuries to the skin, thereby triggering the natural healing process. We combine microneedling with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) derived from your blood to enhance this process further. Together, this dual-prong approach increases skin elastin, improves skin texture, reduces the common signs of aging, and promotes a more youthful and radiant complexion.

Both microneedling and RF Microneedling create open pathways for the PRF solution to penetrate the skin, allowing for dramatically enhanced results than either treatment can deliver on its own.

PRF Bio-Filler
Using patented Bio-Heat technology, we can use PRF to produce natural facial fillers by heating blood plasma to gel form to extend PRF’s life and working properties by several months. This is an all-natural, non-surgical cosmetic procedure to volumize and rejuvenate the skin. This treatment addresses volume loss, wrinkles, and overall skin health.

Injecting PRF growth factors into the skin as bio-filler allows them to work at the cellular level, kickstarting collagen stimulation and elastin production for skin rejuvenation as well as providing volume. The fibrin within PRF works to create a strong network of new, healthy collagen for skin that looks and behaves in a more youthful way. The natural-looking results gradually unfold over the coming weeks, with full results appearing around the four-month mark.

While there are several parallels between PRF bio-fillers and synthetic fillers, they are distinct. PRF contains components derived from blood, while fillers typically consist of synthetic hyaluronic acid or other volumizing agents. Beyond their biological makeup, PRF bio-fillers gradually stimulate natural collagen production over time, whereas traditional fillers immediately boost volume. PRF bio-filler injections align more closely with biostimulatory fillers like Radiesse or Sculptra, offering a unique, natural-looking approach with maximum results.

It’s important to note that although bio-filler can volumize the skin, the volumizing effects last about half as long as traditional fillers. This is because the 100% natural PRF gel bio-filler can be absorbed by the body faster.

PRF Injections
PRF injections contain a high concentration of growth factors to prepare and strengthen your skin. Common areas for injections include around the eyes, mouth, and hairline. PRF injections are often supplemental to treatments like PRF bio-fillers or PRF microneedling.

Once injected in liquid format, the PRF solution initiates a gradual release of growth factors, stimulating collagen production within the skin. This slow release yields incredible results. Additionally, it aids in encouraging new collagen production, addressing concerns such as uneven skin tone, fine lines, wrinkles, minimal sagging, and enlarged pores. The benefits extend beyond skin improvements, as PRF injections are particularly effective in promoting hair growth for those dealing with androgenic alopecia and alopecia areata.

What Are The Benefits of PRF Treatments?

There are several advantages to choosing to undergo PRF treatments. For starters, PRF is an excellent option for those looking for 100% natural treatments. PRF injections also address just about every skin concern from fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin texture, overall skin rejuvenation, and minor laxity. Beyond promoting youthful skin, PRF can also improve the look of acne scars and hair loss.

Am I a Good Candidate for PRF Treatments?

Because PRF is made from a patient’s own blood, it is suitable for almost all individuals. However, some conditions may deter some people from undergoing treatment.

If you are currently experiencing any of the following conditions, you may not be a suitable candidate for PRF treatments:

Additional Details About the Treatments

PRF treatments require more than one session to be successful. While everyone is different, the exact number of PRF treatments you need will be determined at your consultation. Most patients need more than one session to produce the desired result. However, on average, we recommend undergoing three sessions about one month apart followed by maintenance treatments every six to 12 months. To further enhance the results of your treatment, consider combining PRF with another skin-rejuvenating modality such as a laser, Morpheus8 RF, or exosomes.

The primary objective of PRF is to revitalize the skin, restoring natural and youthful suppleness. Similar to all aesthetic treatments and procedures, PRF comes with some minor potential downsides, like minimal redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site (if injected in liquid or gel format). It is crucial to comprehensively understand what PRF can and cannot achieve to avoid unrealistic treatment expectations.

Most patients begin to see the initial results around the six-week mark. But since collagen production is a cumulative process, it’s critical to be consistent with your treatments and stay on track. Maintenance sessions are usually recommended every six to 12 months.

How Much Do PRF Treatments Cost?

PRF treatments vary in cost from provider to provider, and those in large cities often charge more.
